Solar Hot Water

Solar Hot Water systems are one of the most cost efficient renewable energy resources available. You can create 50%-70% of your property's annual hot water requirements. In the summer months it is quite likely you will not need to generate your hot water from your traditional boiler on at all!

Solar Hot Water Systems (sometimes called Solar Thermal Systems) convert light into heat, which in turn creates hot water for your property. A common misconception is that solar energy cannot work in the UK due to the climate; however, solar energy does not need bright sunshine or high temperatures to work effectively – it only needs daylight. So even during a cloudy day hot water can be produced.

Did you know…that not only will a Solar Hot Water system save you money; it will also reduce your impact on the environment. On average, a domestic system can reduce your home's carbon emissions by up to 0.75 tonnes a year.

Solar Thermal(Hot Water) Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)

The government has outlined a new incentive scheme for heat generating renewables, this is a world first for this type of technology. Previously supplementary tariffs were reserved only for electricity generating technologies.

The new incentive is currently in consultation and is planned to come into law in April 2011. The scheme outlines a payment of 18p/kwh. For a typical home this will equate to a payment of around £250 per year. This is in addition to the energy savings made in your home due to the solar thermal system.
